General Samuel Hopkins Chapter, DAR

 ~Kentucky's third oldest DAR chapter

The General Samuel Hopkins Chapter was founded on February 11, 1896.

Our state is proud to claim two of the four original founders of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution - Miss Mary DeSha and Mrs. Ellen Hardin Walworth.

Mary DeSha was from Lexington, Kentucky. She assisted in preparing the DAR Constitution, was the designer of the society's seal, was the first chairman of the Board of Managers, and became Vice-President General. She also sponsored the Lexington, Kentucky, chapter.

Ellen Hardin Walworth was from a prominent Kentucky family and was the first editor of DAR's publication, American Monthly Magazine.
